Record Store Day

Did you know they still sell music? In STORES too! Its true. In fact, today is National Record Store Day. STL’s Vintage Vinyl put together a record to promote it called “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” with original music by the store’s employees and friends, and they asked local artists to make some original covers for the LPs. Here’s my contribution…

Since it’s probably too difficult to read here, I’ll just say it tells the story of a guy quitting his job, getting drunk, getting into more and more trouble till he’s broke and hospitalized, and has to go back to his job. Oh, life.

They’re doing some in-store promotions and stuff today so swing by if you get a chance.

Winter Stephanie

Stephanie got me Corel Painter a while back, but I just finally got a laptop that can handle it without pausing 20 seconds between every brushstroke. It's pretty fun, but there are a LOT of options for media/brushes. Too many. They should make graphics software like video games and make you unlock everything one at a time. No gradients till you beat the Pen Tool level! Also, when you think you've finished it, you should have to play the whole thing again, but upside-down! That one's free Adobe.

Dead Fly Art

One time, when I was living with Don, he found a dead cockroach on his desk and proceeded to drag me in to help make a crime scene, with chalk outline and yellow tape if I remember correctly. I should see if he has any pics. Anyway, I was just reminded by these charming little dead fly cartoons. More at TheChive.com

Eastwood and Frazetta

What a great picture. Taken moments before they wrestled a bear and saved America from a Nazi invasion.

Frazetta’s kind of the cliche of fantasy illustration, but I love him.

I got into him after I realized Sam Kieth was ripping him off.

Don’t get me wrong, he obviously added his own thing to the style. I hope to someday rip off Sam Kieth half as well as he’s ripped off Frazetta.
